An innovative Ugandan social entrepreneur, Muhammed Dimma has been selected to join the prestigious Pursuit Incubator Programme 2020.

The Director of Programs for the Pursuit Incubator Program, Emily Allen, stated that Dimma stood out as a potential candidate due to his innovative ideas and passion for assisting young people.
“His enthusiasm and passion are contagious. He has the determination that an entrepreneur needs to be successful,” said Allen.
As an out-of-the-box thinker, Dimma founded Mawejja Creations in 2014, a company that utilises banana fiber’s to create affordable and unique products. As a social enterprise Mawejja Creations aims to create employment opportunities for young people and women along with a product that benefits society and the environment.
Not only has Dimma placed a foothold in the industry of banana fiber he is also the co-founder of Eco Crafts Ug, a platform that functions to support artisans from local communities based in Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Recognised across the continent for his efforts in social and environmental upliftment, Dimma has been entered into various programmes include the African Presidential Leadership Programme, the Readers to Leaders Programme, and various others. In addition, Dimma was nominated for the 2019 Visionary Leader Award.
Pursuit Incubator Program
The Pursuit Incubator Programme will be held in weekly sessions and conducted online for a period of 10 weeks. During the programme, selected participants will be allocated with their own mentor that has been chosen by Because International. The coaches or mentors will be chosen based on their product design experience, acumen along with their tenacity to help develop other entrepreneurs.
Established by Because International, a non-profit organisation, the incubator programme aims to assist entrepreneurs to grow their business.
The programme is structured around a curriculum that pushes their innovative thinking to further develop its product and business.
Founded in 2007, Because International initially served as the structure of a company titled, ‘The Shoe That Grows’, a US-based business that creates shoes which grow as a child does. The unique technology and materials used to create the shoe have enabled low-income families to afford shoes for their children.
How to apply
Each year, a selected group of entrepreneurs are selected for the prestigious programme. Aimed at entrepreneurs that are in the early stages of development of a business that showcases a physical product.
The program has been tailored for entrepreneurs who are focused on overcoming challenges to develop affordable products that have a market value.
Applicants for the programme must be able to commit to the ten-week programme.
