The City of Cape Town has launched a programme to upskill local women for job opportunities. The accredited training in meeting procedures and minute-taking aims to equip 47 women from the Women For Change (WFC) programme.
The programme is currently taking place and aims to equip participants with skills to access a pool of job opportunities

The COCT Mayco member for Urban Management Grant Twigg comments on the importance of supporting women and the initiative.
“The City is looking at various ways to further empower our participants in EPWP programmes like Women For Change. Lifelong learning is important. After this training, they will be able to include these added skills on their CV and apply for other positions within the city. As a caring city, throughout the year, we offer various programmes and interventions to assist our communities at risk. The Women for Change Programme is an intervention programme aimed at vulnerable women in general and women in rental stock in particular. The programme seeks to enable women to play a more active role in their local communities while developing and learning skills that will help unlock future job opportunities.”
The programme launched on 6 April and will conclude on 12 April 2021.
According to a statement issued by the COCT, women from Belmont Park, Scottsville, Wallacedene, Scottsdene, Eikendal, and Northpine are currently attending the accredited training. The programme will empower participants with the knowledge of meeting procedures and the skills to take meeting minutes, increasing their skill set for future job opportunities.
The initiative forms part of EPWP for women living in City rental stock with empowerment programmes.

Women that reside in the City rental stock are encouraged to register with the EPWP database by visiting their local subcouncil to take part in the Women for Change Programme.
