According to reports, the fire began early on Sunday morning and has since raged its way through the vegetation and mountainous areas surrounding the City of Cape Town. The fire has had a devastating impact on integral and historic structures at the University of Cape Town. The inferno has destroyed Rhodes Memorial restaurant along with the iconic Mostert Mill, a historic windmill located in Mowbray.
Firefighters have been working hard to control the fire for over 24 hours with windy conditions contributing to the spread of the flames across areas.
In an official press statement, OneDayOnly explains how they are doing their part to encourage donations to the men and women on the frontline of the fire rescue efforts.
“To provide an efficient firefighting service to the people of Cape Town and surrounding areas the Volunteer Wildfire Services need ongoing funding. They rely on donations from the public and businesses to meet their annual running costs.
You can help make a difference by making a once-off donation via OneDayOnly.”
How does it work
Locals can simply visit the OneDayOnly website or mobile app and scroll down till they find the below option. Once found, click on the item and purchase a donation from R50, R100, R200, and R600. All the funds raised will be given to the Volunteer Wildfire Services.
”Because of the time-sensitive nature of this deal, certain features in checkout such as the requirement for a delivery address still exist. Whilst this does not have any bearing on the donation, OneDayOnly felt that developing a unique checkout page specifically for the purpose of this donation-related deal would take up the time we simply did not have,” explains OneDayOnly.
Users are encouraged to enter any delivery address during the checkout process when purchasing the donation. This will not have an impact on the donation.
”Further, any automated emails received subsequent to checkout will also read in line with our standard method of delivery – these too have no bearing on this specific donation deal.”
Voucher codes are not valid nor apply to this donation option.
