Mozambican startup Txapita Mobility has been crowned the winner of Seedstars Maputo. This follows a pitch event that took place last Friday (1 November) in the city.

The Maputo-based mobility startup has developed a mobile app and web service that provides users with real-time public transit information.

The startup will now represent Mozambique at the Seedstars Africa Summit — which will be held in Johannesburg in December — where it will get a chance to win a spot to pitch for $500 000 in equity funding at the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland.

In all, 10 startups were selected to pitch at the event (see this story).

Hardware startup Output Tech Solution, which has developed Xiphefu (a device that can be used to remotely control electricity supply to devices without using the internet), was placed second. Online food ordering and delivery platfrom Cliko came in third.

The startups pitched in front of a jury panel that included UX Information Technologies co-founder Frederico P Silva, FSD Mozambique digital finance services manager Carlos Valente Mondle, Ka Da Terra Supermercados’ Ursula Daniela Pais, Agility senior vice president Africa Deanne de Vries, Standard Bank Mozambique head of investment banking Joao Guirengane and Seedstars regional manager for Africa Claudia Makadristo.

Seedstars World’s next stop in Africa is Zambia for Seedstars Lusaka at Bongo Hive this Wednesday (6 November).
