Zambian legaltech platform Apptorney wins Seedstars Lusaka

Zambian legaltech platform Apptorney has been named the winner of this year’s Seedstars Lusaka pitching event.

Apptorney, which was founded last year by Muchu Kaingu (pictured above), Edwin Kamau, Soi Kaingu and Misozi Ngulube, provides users with legal information on Zambian case law, legislation and subsidiary legislation.

The startup will now represent Zambia at the Seedstars Africa Summit — which will be held in Johannesburg next month — where it will get a chance to win a spot to pitch for $500 000 in equity funding at the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland.

A total of nine startups were selected to pitch at the event which was held at Bongo Hive on Wednesday (6 November).

Non-profit Brighter Futures Africa was placed second, while cloud-based accounting solution Nyamukabooks won third place.

The other startups that pitched at the event include: fintechs Economic Recovery Initiatives, Insurepay and Payplus, edtech Edusongs Solutions, regtech platform Garibara and Tricore Manufacturing Company.

Subsequent to the publication of the article, Apptorney CEO Muchu Kaingu informed Ventureburn that the startup was in fact founded in 2018 and that its founders include Soi Kaingu and Misozi Ngulube.
