Healthtech Macquarie Medical Care wins Seedstars Windhoek
Healthtech platform Macquarie Medical Care has been named the winner of yesterday’s Seedstars Windhoek pitching event.
Macquarie Medical Care, which was founded in 2010 by Armid Azadeh (pictured above), uses telemedicine and digital health solutions to optimise access to quality healthcare.
The company, which initially started operations in Indonesia, also has a public health consulting as well as a health, safety and environment training and compliance division.
Macquarie Medical Care will now represent Mozambique at the Seedstars Africa Summit
Macquarie Medical Care will now represent Namibia at the Seedstars Africa Summit which will be held in Johannesburg next month, where they will get a chance to win a spot to pitch for $500 000 in equity funding at the Seedstars Global Summit in Switzerland.
Genetixmetazoa, a Namibian company that provides forensic animal DNA solutions which help in the indisputable identification of animals, was placed second.
Tuma Technologies, which has developed an on-demand delivery app that allows users to order from various stores and have their goods delivered at their doorsteps, came in third.
The other startups which pitched at the event, which was held at The Kitchen in Windhoek were:
- Autono-Me: Web-based work facilitator and networking platform
- Derenas Investments: Waste tyre rubber recycling company
- EstApp: Proptech startup that connects buyers with sellers as well as helps users find house and room mates
- NamCloud Investments: Developed Agriskills4U, an edtech solution that teaches users about agriculture
- Nghishe Biotech:Biotech startup
- Tasked Technology Solution: Jobs marketplace for day-to-day errands
- Nam-Oceanic Kelp Production Enterprise: Produces chicken feed from seaweed
The startups pitched in front of a jury that consists of Southern Africa Innovation Support’s Sharon Emvula, Groot Systems’ Rachel Kapenda, GIZ Start-up Namibia’s Anna Vambe, Baobab Capital’s Nico Willemse and Seedstars regional partnerships manager Maryam Mgonja.
Seedstars World’s next stops in Africa are in South Africa for Seedstars Cape Town, next Thursday (21 November) and Seedstars Johannesburg which will be held on 28 November.
