These are the nine startups pitching today at Seedstars Johannesburg

Swiss emerging market startup competition Seedstars World has named the nine startups that will pitch today at Seedstars Johannesburg.

The event will be held at JoziHub, it’s however not clear what time it will start.

The Seedstars Johannesburg winner will represent the city at the Seedstars Africa Summit next week, where they’ll get the chance to win a spot at the Seedstars Global Summit in Switzerland.

The winner of the global summit in Switzerland will take home a $500 000 investment prize as well as three months access to an investment readiness programme.

Seedstars Johannesburg will also feature track for best female entrepreneur, sponsored by German development agency GIZ.

The best female entrepreneur track winner, along with the startups that are placed second and third, will be invited to attend the Seedstars Africa Summit where they will participate in bootcamps, mentoring sessions and an investor forum.

The nine startups selected to pitch at the event are:

• Nubian Smarts: Female run edtech startup that has developed The Numaths Kids App which is centred around South African mathematics curriculum
• 3DIMO: Developed a sports wearable device that optimises performance and reduces the occurrence of injuries
• Why Toyz: Develops educational content which is delivered through 3D printing technologies that enable kids to explore, experiment, create and design anything
• My Pregnancy Journey: App that educates and guides user throughout their pregnancy
• Smergos: Develops and manufactures products that are specifically designed for people who have physically disabilities
• Yonke: Online booking app for beauty salons and spas
• Top Code: The startup has developed ride-sharing app Catch A Ride.
• Watertech: Developed a smart water meter that monitors and controls water usage and wastage
• UrbanSense: Mobile-based market where vetted service providers meet customers
