Her company develops educational content which is delivered through 3D printing technologies that enable kids aged three to seven to explore, experiment, create and design anything at home.

The startup also won the Best Edutech Startup in Southern Africa category at the Southern African Startup Awards which were also held yesterday in Johannesburg.

Why Toyz will now represent Johannesburg at next week’s Seeedstars Africa Summit

Unlike last year, there won’t be a run-off event to decide who from Seedstars Cape Town and Seedstars Johannesburg, will represent South Africa at the Africa summit. This time, both the winners of Seedstars Cape Town and Seedstars Johannesburg will attend the regional summit.

At the regional summit, Why Toyz will get the chance to win a spot at the Seedstars Global Summit in Switzerland.

The winner of the global summit in Switzerland, set to take place in April next year, will take home up to $500 000 in investment as well as three months access to an investment readiness programme.

In all Swiss emerging market startup competition Seedstars World selected nine startups to pitch at the event that was held at JoziHub (see this story).

Wearables startup 3DIMO was placed second while another edtech startup Nubian Smarts won third place.

It’s not yet clear which startup won the best female entrepreneur track.

Nubian Smarts and 3DIMO, along with the female entrepreneur track winner, will join Why Toyz at the regional summit which takes place next week in Johannesburg, where they will participate in bootcamps, mentoring sessions and an investor forum.

Seedstars Johannesburg marks the last event in the Seedstars World Africa tour which will culminate in the Seedstars Africa Summit which will be held at The Fox Junction next Thursday (5 December).
